AC SPD (Surge Protective Device), 2P, < = 440V

A surge protector (or spike suppressor, surge suppressor, surge shunt, surge protection device (SPD), or transient voltage surge suppressor (TVSS)) is an appliance or device designed to protect electrical equipment from voltage spikes in an AC circuit. When an external disturbance causes a sudden surge of current or voltage in a circuit or communication line, a surge protector conducts and avoids the current for a very short period of time, thus preventing the surge from damaging other equipment in the circuit.A surge protector is a Class II device designed to protect against transient overvoltages caused by fast switching operations or indirect lightning strikes. It discharges induced voltage surges (8/20 μs) and is suitable for use as a second level of protection in switchboards fitted with a Class 1 protector, or as a first level of protection in applications that are not directly exposed to lightning strikes and do not have an external lightning protection system.

The EKU5-T2-40 is a category 2 AC lightning protector with Imax = 40 kA, which also supports remote signalling and incorporates the innovative tripping and breaking technology of the range.Maximum continuous operating AC voltage up to 440v and maximum discharge current up to 40kA.

- Applications:

Surge Protectors (SPDs) are widely used to protect electrical systems and sensitive equipment in various fields. In residential buildings, they protect appliances and electronic equipment from damage caused by power surges. Commercial buildings rely on SPDs to protect office equipment, data centres and critical systems. The industrial sector uses SPDs to protect machinery and automation systems. In the energy sector, SPDs protect renewable energy systems, power plants and substations. Telecoms and IT infrastructures benefit from SPDs to ensure the stable operation of networks and servers. Medical facilities use SPDs to protect sensitive instruments, while transport systems such as railways and airports rely on SPDs for reliability. Utilities and lighting systems such as LED fixtures and street lights also rely on SPDs for uninterrupted functionality.
